Mercy Mission Formation Network 2024 Gathering

The Mercy Mission Formation Network (MMFN) is a network for people involved in mission-related roles in ministries with a Mercy heritage across Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand. The network, which has been operating for many years, meets annually, and new members are most welcome.

This year the MMFN annual gathering will be held 8-10  May in Melbourne at the Catholic Leadership Centre, East Melbourne, where participants will explore the theme of ‘Synodality in our Mercy Space.’

The Synod on Synodality is a three-year process of listening and dialogue which began with a solemn opening in Rome two years ago. Pope Francis invites the entire Church to reflect on a theme that is decisive for its life and mission: “It is precisely this path of synodality which God expects of the Church of the third millennium.” This journey, which follows in the wake of the Church’s “renewal” proposed by the Second Vatican Council, is both a gift and a task: by journeying together and reflecting together on the journey that has been made, the Church will be able to learn through Her experience which processes can help Her to live communion, to achieve participation, to open Herself to mission.”

Participants are responsible for the cost of their flights to and from the event and accommodation. The MMFN will cover all costs associated with the gathering.

Breakfast session with Elizabeth Davis RSM

Topic: What Does Synodality Look Like in the Mercy World?

Date: Friday 10 May 2024

Time: 7:30am – 10:30am

Location: Venue [TBC] / Zoom Meeting

As part of this year’s event, Mercy Mission Formation Network are delighted to extend an invitation to join us in person or online via Zoom for a breakfast session facilitated by Sr. Elizabeth Davis RSM, a member of the Congregation of the Sisters of Mercy of Newfoundland and Labrador. Sr. Elizabeth brings with her a wealth of experience, having recently participated in the General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops held in Rome.

During this session, Sr. Elizabeth Davis will share invaluable insights on synodality within the Mercy context, drawing from her firsthand experiences and observations.

  • Key Learnings and Connections to Our Mercy Way: Elizabeth will reflect on her experiences at the General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops and distil key learnings that resonate with the Mercy way. Through her presentation, we will explore how the principles of synodality intersect with the core values and mission of the Mercy community.
  • Examples of Synodality in the Mercy World: Elizabeth will provide illuminating examples of synodality already at work within the Mercy World. These real-life instances will showcase how synodality has been embraced and implemented in various Mercy ministries, fostering collaboration, inclusivity, and shared decision-making processes.
  • Suggestions for Expansion: Building upon her insights and experiences, Sr. Elizabeth will offer practical suggestions on how we can further expand the process of synodality within the Mercy World. This segment aims to inspire collective brainstorming and dialogue on fostering a more synodal approach to governance, ministry, and community engagement.

Sister Elizabeth is keen to gather insights from those in attendance regarding crucial messages to inform her engagement in the upcoming Synod session scheduled for October this year. The collective wisdom shared by fellow participants during this session will play a vital role in enhancing the depth of discussions during her time in Rome.

We encourage all members to actively participate in this enriching session, as Sr. Elizabeth’s expertise promises to shed light on how synodality can deepen and enhance our Mercy mission.

Please RSVP by Wednesday 1 May to confirm your attendance at this breakfast event. Zoom meeting details will be emailed prior.
