On Sunday 26 March, Sacred Heart College Geelong celebrated its annual Foundation Day. The celebration began with a thanksgiving Mass, led by Fr Sang Ho and was attended by students, current and former staff, Sisters of Mercy, Gabrielle McMullen MMC Trustee Director, and Alumni.
A song, written for the occasion by Margaret Wills, the College’s Music Coordinator, was also performed.
During the Mass Fr Sang spoke about the courage of the founding Sisters – Xavier Maguire, Gabriel Sherlock, Regis Sienna T Manly, Margaret M Mullaly, Rose Lynch and Aloysius Ryan – whose mission in 1859 was to bring the light of Christ to the people of Geelong, by establishing a Catholic school on Newtown Hill. This journey and the 163 years that have followed was reflected beautifully in a song called Here We Stand, composed for the occasion by Margaret Wills, College Music Coordinator, and performed by Amanda Humphrey, Leader of Catholic Identity Integration, and Anna Fletcher a past pupil. Amanda and Anna were accompanied by Margaret and the College Choir and Orchestra.
